Meet the Baker

Richard Walter, founder of Madrid Bagel Shop, was born and raised in metropolitan New York. Growing up, bagels were a big part of his life and something that Ricci absolutely loved! When it was time to go to college, Ricci moved to northern Vermont, only a short drive to the Canadian Bagel Mecca of Montreal. Here, his love for this round breakfast delicacy only grew. It was only after leaving school that Ricci had to face the harsh reality that most of us know all too well that good bagels aren’t widely available.

After college Richard spent a few years in New Hampshire before settling down in Madrid in 2020. It was not long in Madrid that Richard developed homesickness for the food back home, especially bagels.

Richard then formulated the Madrid Bagel Shop recipe inspired by both the bagels of New York and Montreal. The recipe uses only quality ingredients made with flour, brown sugar, maple syrup, honey, fresh eggs, sunflower oil and a dab of salt. Madrid Bagel Shop bagels are hand shaped, chewy, and delicious!
